Elaeagnus Bonsai Tree

Elaeagnus silverberry or oleaster, is a genus of about 50–70 species of flowering plants in the family Elaeagnaceae. Elaeagnus plants are deciduous or evergreen shrubs or small trees. The alternate leaves and the shoots are usually covered with tiny silvery to brownish scales, giving the plants a whitish to grey-brown colour from a distance.

Elaeagnus respond well to Bonsai technics and are displayed in almost all styles.

Elaeagnus Bonsai trees likes to be in a sunny or a partial shade position. In the height of summer move the Bonsai to a shaded area to prevent the leaves from drying. Try to protect the Bonsai from strong drying winds. especially during spring. Protect the Elaeagnus Bonsai trees from harsh frosts and extreme cold weather.

Keep the Bonsai well watered throughout the growing season and a moist soil at all other times.

Repotting should be done yearly for young Elaeagnus Bonsai. Old specimens should only be repotted every three or four years. Use a natural well draining compost mix.

Feed every two weeks with a general soluble plant feed.

Natural pruning producers a better natural looking Bonsai but carful wiring gives good results.
