Cedar (Cedrus) Bonsai Tree

Cedar (Cedrus) is a genus of coniferous trees in the plant family Pinaceae. They are native to the mountains of the western Himalaya and the Mediterranean region.

Cedar Bonsai are a slow growing outdoor tree. Bonsai styles include formal and informal single uprights, slanting and group plantings. Garden centres are a good source of growing material.

Position the Cedar Bonsai in full sun. Cedar are hardy but as a Bonsai you should protect the trees from extreme cold temperatures and winds.

Due to the slow growing nature of Cedar Bonsai, you should be able to repot the tree less frequently than other Bonsai. Use a good, well draining compost, preferably designed for acidic loving plants.

Keep the soil moist at all times but never waterlogged.

Heavy pruning should take place in early spring or late autumn. Pinching or light pruning during the summer months. Cedar Bonsai response well to wiring.

Feed every three weeks during the growing season with a general plant feed or add a slow release to the compost.
